Nokia Officially Opens Mobile Phone Plant in India

Nokia officially opened its first mobile phone production facility in India on March 11. The plant, located near the city of Chennai, recently started production, and initially it will only manufacture GSM mobile phones. Starting in the second half of 2006, Nokia expects to start exporting handsets produced at the plant, mainly to Southeast Asian countries. The company stated it plans to invest US$150 million in the facility.
